Happy holidays and happy reading

From my experience, many avid readers really need more bookshelves.

All my bookcases have to handle a second row of books stacked in front of the first row.

What I really need is time to read.

I need more shelves and space in my home for them haha

My sister and I used to give each other a personally annotated book for Christmas. It’s such a fun way to connect and learn more about each other. The notes don’t have to be deep; simple underlining or highlighting funny parts can work too.

This idea can also be great for a partner who loves reading. It’s not expensive, but it feels special.

(Hope to do this again next Christmas)

@Dex
What a lovely idea.

I really want a personally annotated book from someone I care about.

But unfortunately, it’s not just about having people you love; they also need to be readers who think deeply about one another.

It’s clear you and your sister value that special connection, which is such a rare and precious gift.

@Dex
That sounds like a fantastic idea for family gifts!

@Dex
I love this idea and will definitely use it!

@Dex
This is a great idea! I’m going to suggest this to my mom.

@Dex
Such a lovely idea :blush:

@Dex
This is brilliant. I really love it.

I came across a neat gift idea today. You can print out a beloved passage from a book and frame it for someone. You can make it as fancy or simple as you want. If you don’t have a printer, many public libraries offer printing for free or at a low price. You could get a nice frame if you want, or just find one at a thrift store that you think they would like.

@Paz
You can use Canva for free to create nice graphics if you want to add some flair!

One of the best gifts I’ve received (besides books) is a book repair tape. This clear tape doesn’t get brittle, yellow, or lose its stickiness. I had a lot of fun fixing my old books and now I can read them without worrying about them falling apart.

@Indigo
Thanks! I just got a second-hand book that needed some care and was going to try stitching it together (literally).

Can you recommend a place to get the tape?

I use the Scotch brand book tape. You can find it online by searching for ‘Scotch book tape’.

I gave a fellow reader a personalized library stamp set. I got a custom self-inking stamp saying ‘From the library of FirstName LastName’ and some old library checkout cards with envelopes. It helps her keep track of who borrows her books since she has a huge collection. I added some more goodies to the kit too. She appreciated it and it didn’t cost too much to put together.

@Ashby
That sounds awesome! My sister gave me an embosser instead of a stamp, and I can say it’s amazing!

@Ashby
I’ve wanted an embosser for a long time! I’ve asked for one for several years, but my bookish friends don’t seem to have the same obsession.

I love getting reusable bags from well-known bookstores. I have a collection that I use for my shopping.
