Gift Ideas for Readers 2024

Does anyone have recommendations for witty sci-fi or paranormal books? I’m looking for ones that are funny based on the narrative tone rather than just jokes from the characters.

Also, is there a way to buy a book that comes with a QR code allowing you to listen to the book? I want to gift my friend the physical book to unwrap, but she prefers listening to them.

@Denali
I think ‘Project Hail Mary’ does a great job with a witty and funny tone throughout. It’s a sci-fi, hard science story, but the characters remain serious when necessary despite the overall tone.

Mileage may vary, but as someone who reads in public spaces and on public transport, I found nice reusable earplugs to be my favorite reading accessory this year. It may fit a narrower audience of readers, but I wanted to mention it since I don’t see it listed often.

I use loops that I like, but there are likely many options out there.

I’d love some recommendations for my partner, who’s trying to read more fiction! He enjoys sci-fi but is open to any genre. He wants to read well-written books but isn’t interested in classics that are dense or have old-fashioned language.

@Gael
The ‘Mistborn’ trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is extremely well-written and a great introduction to fantasy if he’s curious about new genres. I absolutely loved it, even as someone who hadn’t read much fantasy before.

I’ve posted this in the main area, but the mods suggested this would be a better spot. Kind folks of this forum, my wife is really eager to find a nice copy of ‘Lord of the Rings.’ Ideally, she wants a hardback vintage or antique edition, or a nice newer print with an attractive cover. Some I’ve found are ridiculously expensive because they’re collectors’ items. I want one she can actually open and read without worrying about destroying its value. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bonus points if you have any leads on a version of ‘The Silmarillion’ that fits this description as well.

Thank you.
