What are some Xmas gift ideas for people who don't want more unnecessary stuff?

Gift certificates for an experience.

Concert tickets, skydiving, hot air balloon ride, go karting, etc.

I got a friend a spa day appointment, got another buddy a deep tissue deep massage voucher. I think experiences, within reason of course, are a good gift

Put up the effort, time and money to spend quality time with them.

Experiences - something outlandish, shark dive, bungee jump, skiing, sauna, concerts, festivals, spa etc.

Edibles - fancy, unusual or expensive that they wouldn’t usually buy. Chocolates are a solid option.

Gift cards - only if you know they like and already purchase things at eg: playstation, Xbox, certain grocery stores, etc.

Real gold - for those people who don’t want something that’s going to depreciate in value and that you don’t want to get a useless gift, I know im one of these people lol. Gold holds value, and will likely be worth a lot in the future.

Alcohol - get something you know they like, or something exotic they’re willing to try.

Hamper - these are common in the UK I’m not sure about other places, but over here we get hampers of luxe food items like wine, cheese, biscuits and nuts. Or themed ones like coffee or candles are common too. You could make yourself or purchase ready made.

Scratch off tickets - idk I always stuff these into Christmas and birthday cards lol

A lot of people will list things you can use up – food, beverage, personal products (lotions, bath stuff, etc.)

If you aren’t the type to cringe at this: Homemade something. A hand drawn card, a hand written poem, a printed book of favorite photos, a calendar of favorite photos, a digital collection of old home movies, a coupon book.

A coupon book is: Print or write on about 3 by 4 inch squares of paper, various favors. Then use a hole punch and tie the pages together, or just staple them 2 places on the side, to form a little book. Don’t forget to make a cover for it too.

Another possibility is a charitable donation in their name or their pet’s name.

People will have to gauge whether the recipient would love or hate any of that.

A few years ago, I couldn’t think of anything to get one of my good friends. Then she mentioned that her church was doing a funding drive to make some improvements. I made a donation in her name to the church. She cried because she thought it was so kind. The next year, she and another friend made donations to the MS society in my mother’s memory for my Christmas gift.

Make a donation to a charity in their honor.

I’m feeling a little Christmas spirit tonight! ;D

Donate to charity on their behalf, or adopt an animal in their name.

My aunt did this! We were not super close, but we got along splendidly. A donation to the Humane Society was perfect. She didn’t have to shop and I didn’t have to not use the gift she would have bought.

Some avoid the outdoors as much as they can.

But how about safety devices?

Started defaulting to candles. It will get used and I love them for the mood lighting.

I got boxes of scented candles from various people over the years.

I’m allergic to the scent in a lot of products or brands. (If I buy one I have to vet it carefully first.)

I could tell by sniffing them or smelling and getting a headache soon as it was unwrapped, it wouldn’t be fun.

I smiled and thanked them. Then later, I gave them all away. I can’t get migraines and such just to spare someone’s feelings. If they ask later just a vague “oh great!”

Weed

Edit: of course there’s always a Karen

I would say this suggestion falls squarely in the junk they don’t need category. Unless it was something they specifically asked for don’t do this
